All Ages Accepted
As a parent, you want the best for your child. That includes healthy teeth and a great smile. At Johnson Orthodontics, we aim to treat your children as if they were our own, with gentleness and the best possible care.
It’s not always easy for a parent to tell if their child needs orthodontic treatment. That’s why the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children get an orthodontic check-up no later than age 7. By then, your child’s teeth have developed enough that we can spot problems with jaw growth and emerging teeth. Ideally, the check-up will reveal that your child’s bite is fine and braces won’t be necessary. But, if that’s not the case and Dr. Johnson sees a developing problem, he may recommend monitoring your child’s growth and development until they are ready for treatment. Every child is different and will be ready for braces at different times. However, most kids begin treatment between the ages of 9 and 14.
Johnson Orthodontics offers complimentary consultations for all ages and we would love to meet you and your child to determine if they will need orthodontic care.
Most teens today have a pretty active online presence. With the kind of constant sharing that social media encourages, there’s more pressure than ever to look good. But no matter how many selfies they post, many teens are insecure, especially if their smile is less than perfect. Scheduling an orthodontic check-up for your teen is important for more reasons than just looking good, however. Untreated orthodontic problems can have a lasting impact on a teen’s oral health, causing problems such as bone loss, decay, gum disease and jaw pain. We would be happy to offer you and your teen a complimentary consultation and exam.
If Dr. Johnson determines your teen would benefit from orthodontic treatment, there are a number of different options including traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces and Invisalign Teen. Metal braces are probably the most popular choice for teens. You may be surprised to learn, however, that braces of today are far smaller and sleeker than when you were in high school! They’re lighter, more comfortable and are easily customized by changing the colors of the elastic ties on the brackets.
Invisalign Teen is a process that involves wearing a series of clear retainers called aligners. They fit snugly over your teen’s teeth and are changed out weekly for the next in the set. They are made of a patented flexible plastic that is FDA-approved and contains no BPA, BPS, latex or gluten. These aligners can be removed to eat and drink, brush and floss, and for special occasions like prom. Invisalign works best with mild-to-moderate orthodontic issues. Dr. Johnson can let you know if Invisalign is a good option for your teen.
PS: YES, teens can still play sports when undergoing orthodontic treatment……as long as they wear a mouthguard! We will happily provide your teen with a complimentary mouthguard to help prevent any potential injury.
You’re never too old to benefit from orthodontic treatment! Today, adults make up about one in every four orthodontic patients. Here’s why:
Looking Good: Orthodontic treatment can help correct crooked teeth or spaces that you’ve been self conscious about for years. It can give you the confidence and pride that come with straight teeth and a great smile.
Teeth Can Shift: Believe it or not, tooth movement doesn’t stop in adolescence. Teeth that seemed straight in youth can shift later in life. This can lead to jaw pain, trouble brushing, or a smile you’re unhappy with.
Maintaining Dental Health: Crooked teeth and misaligned bites contribute to gum loss, tooth decay, abnormal wearing of enamel, bone loss, difficulty chewing and jaw pain. Orthodontic treatment can help you maintain good dental health.
At Johnson Orthodontics, we have treated patients from ages 7 to 78! Teeth can be moved at any age and adult orthodontic treatments are quite effective. When you come in for your complimentary consultation, Dr. Johnson will review your records, discuss what you want to accomplish, and explain your treatment options. You may opt for traditional metal braces, clear braces or Invisalign.
Invisalign has rapidly become the most popular option among the adults we treat. The process involves wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. They are made of a patented flexible plastic that is FDA-approved and contains no BPA, BPS, latex or gluten. They are thin, clear, and fit snugly over your teeth, making them virtually invisible. They can be removed to eat and drink, brush and floss, and for special occasions. Dr. Johnson will want to see you for regular check-ups, usually every 6-8 weeks. The goal of these visits is to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned. Length of treatment varies from person to person, but on average lasts about 12-18 months, although you can start seeing results in a matter of weeks.
