How State-Of-The-Art Technology Can Provide A Superior Orthodontic Experience

In the last several years, the orthodontic community has seen incredible advancements in the technology and techniques we use. Not only do these innovations provide exceptional results, they also improve the overall patient experience. Here at Johnson Orthodontics, it’s our mission to stay at the forefront of new developments and treatment methods so we are able to offer our patients superior care. Let’s take a closer look at some of the technology we use to ensure a beautiful smile for you, and a rewarding orthodontic journey from start to finish!

iTero Element 3-D Scanner

Before orthodontic treatment can begin, we need to understand every detail of your smile. For a long time, the only method for capturing these important measurements involved taking a physical impression by having the patient bite down on a putty-like material. This technique can be unpleasant, and the results are sometimes inefficient as well.

Johnson Orthodontics has embraced an excellent alternative that’s much more precise and comfortable! Our iTero Element 3-D scanner eliminates messy impressions and provides a much more pleasant experience for patients. The iTero wand fits easily into the mouth, resting over one tooth at a time, capturing photographs of your mouth’s structure. These are saved to the computer system, and within minutes, we have a comprehensive view of your smile!

iTero captures incredibly accurate measurements for Invisalign treatment, which means your chances of being called back in for a redo are greatly reduced. Your check-ups will also be shorter and further apart over the course of their treatment. Both of these benefits will save you time and money.

Additionally, iTero allows us to send your digital impressions directly to the appropriate lab, resulting in a faster turnaround time for Invisalign aligners and other appliances.

iTero Outcome Simulator

Did you know you can see what your finished smile will look like before you even start the treatment process? With iTero Outcome Simulator, you can do just that! This unique technology means we can show you your smile simulation at the first consultation, giving you the chance to make an informed decision about your treatment without committing to anything beforehand

Using the simulator, you’ll be able to see all the angles of your smile, zoomed in and out. We’ll also show you dramatic before-and-after shots, and the movements your teeth will make to create the final results. Having an accurate preview of what you can expect from treatment is exciting! These images are yours to keep, and can be produced in just minutes.

FormLabs 3-D Printer

Adding a FromLabs 3-D printer to our state of the art equipment lineup has proven to be an excellent decision. This allows us to provide a better, more accurate fit for patients when combined with our iTero scanner. We no longer need to send digital scans to an outside lab, since we can simply upload them and store the data in our cloud. This gives us immediate access to all of our saved impressions, and the ability to create accurate models and clear retainers anytime we need them, right here in our own office! We’re also able to make adjustments over the course of your treatment if the need arises.

i-CAT FLX Cone Beam x-ray machine

Using the i-CAT system, we’re able to generate a 3D rendering of your face, teeth and jaws in just a few seconds! While you sit, the machine captures these highly defined images quickly, comfortably, and safely. With this technology, Dr. Johnson can clearly visualize the teeth, roots, and sinuses, as well as the hard and soft tissues of the craniofacial structures. Having this information means we can achieve greater precision in your planning and treatment choices!

Patient safety is always our top priority. The radiation dose of one i-CAT image is a fraction of the radiation you would receive from spending a day outdoors in the sunshine, and much less than the digital panoramic x-rays that are traditionally used. The 3D imaging also provides useful data for diagnoses like:

  • extra or missing teeth
  • impacted wisdom teeth
  • analysis of the roots
  • TMD, or temporomandibular disorder
  • sleep apnea

All of this data will be shared with you so that you can make fully informed and educated decisions on the course of your treatment.
