A Year to be Thankful For

There’s no doubt this year was a bit of a curveball! Since March, we’ve been dealing with everything from face mask mandates to stay at home orders. Needless to say, it’s taken some adjustment. However, throughout all of the ups and downs, our community has come together to make life a little brighter, despite the (social) distance. We believe that makes 2020 a year to be thankful for!

Our Rehoboth community is important to us and we’re so fortunate to be surrounded by people who genuinely care about each other. From the Facebook groups created to provide support and encouragement for small businesses to charitable donations to simply calling to check in on our neighbors, our community has come together like never before.

Throughout these crazy times, our team has been committed to doing our part to serve our amazing community. Keep reading to learn more about our community involvement and what we’re thankful for as this year comes to a close.

Knowledge is Power!

We believe education is important, from daycare until high school graduation and beyond. That’s why we’ve partnered with a number of organizations focused on serving schools – students and teachers! We’ve been honored to work with:

  • Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation (CHEF) to donate school supplies to needy children in the community
  • Provided supplies to two local elementary schools to participate in the national Kindness Rocks Project

Our Johnson Orthodontics team worked together to donate reusable water bottles to several local schools, including high school football teams, bands, dance teams, and color guard. Since drinking fountains have been indefinitely closed, this provided an eco-friendly solution for every child. We also:

  • Visited a local daycare for Children’s Dental Health Month, teaching children to brush using stuffed animals and donating a new toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to each student.
  • Awarded our annual $500 Extraordinary Smiles Scholarship to a graduating high school senior
  • Supported local teachers through our Fish Bowl Contest where patients nominate their teachers for a quarterly drawing to win $200 for their classroom.

Helping Healthcare Heroes

As we’re dealing with a worldwide pandemic, we believe it’s essential to acknowledge and support healthcare workers. That’s why we partnered with Kai Surf, a local beach brand, to create an inspiring and unifying design raising money for Beebe Hospital. Together, we were able to donate nearly $2,000 to their COVID-19 Relief Fund!

We were also able to donate 325 masks and over 1,000 pairs of gloves to Beebe Hospital. In a time when personal protective equipment is so essential for our frontline healthcare workers, being able to play even a small part in helping provide those supplies is something we’ll always cherish.

Our team was also proud to participate in the national Phelan Lucky campaign to raise awareness and support for those dealing with Phelan McDermid Syndrome. We love participating in this campaign each year and we’re so glad to carry on the tradition!

Caring for the Community

Many people in our community have been deeply affected by the pandemic, whether it touched their lives through physical illness or job loss, we’ve seen need unlike any before. Our team worked together to donate snacks and toiletries to needy families in our community through the Pathways to Success program. We’re also coming together to adopt a family for the holidays, bringing love and cheer during these uncertain times.

Our office is also continuing to sponsor local travel sports teams, Pop Warner, and local Girl Scouts, ensuring that our children have safe, productive after-school activities.

A Year to be Thankful For

As we’ve continued to adjust to ever-changing guidelines, we’ve had some big things to be thankful for around our office. We’re thrilled to have added two new members to our team! Cathy, our insurance coordinator, and Yana, a clinician, have been nothing less than amazing as they’ve joined our team in providing beautiful smiles and quality care.

We recognize that many businesses have suffered due to the challenges brought about by COVID-19. We’re incredibly thankful for the continued support and love we’ve received from each of our patients and their families. It’s been a blessing to continue treating patients and we’re thankful for the continued health and well-being of our team members, patients, family, and friends.
